The Prairie Playhouse Early Learning Center, an eagerly anticipated addition to Sedley, received a significant boost over the weekend, thanks to a successful car show and summer bash.

According to Kelsey Morrison, the board chair for the center, the event raised just under $10,000.

"We did our final count, and we fundraised a little under $10,000." Morrison continues, "Our goal was to fundraise $10,000 at this event, and knowing that the community showed up—not just from Sedley but also from Weyburn, Regina, and other rural areas—was incredibly heartening."

Morrison emphasized the importance of these funds for the center's development.

"We have a goal of raising at least $20,000 a year, especially in these early stages as we're building and getting everything off the ground. This event's success not only helps us reach our goal but also gives us hope and inspiration to continue with our mission."

The funds raised will be directed toward constructing the daycare, which is being built off-site by a contracted RTM company.

"It's all for the daycare building itself, and seeing this come together is truly starting to feel surreal."

Despite the fundraiser's success, Morrison acknowledged that there is still much work ahead. The board knows that the significance of the center extends beyond Sedley. "

This child care center isn't just for Sedley; it's going to serve all the rural communities along Highway 33." Morrison says, "It will be the first childcare facility within about 145 kilometres on that highway. Children from four or five different communities and local farms will benefit from it."

She notes that the board is hugely grateful for the ongoing support within the community.
