Throughout July, Alberta artists developed their creative abilities through Red Deer Polytechnic’s (RDP) Series Summer Art Workshops.

291 artists participated in 31 one-day, and one-week workshops.

“We are extremely proud to continue the longstanding tradition of hosting Series Summer Art Workshops on the main campus,” said Martin Thomsen, Interim Dean, of Continuing Education and Corporate Training. “As a polytechnic, we offer diverse applied research, education, and training opportunities, including in the arts, that contribute to the economic, social, and cultural development of Alberta.”

The workshop topics featured various mediums, such as metalsmithing, sculpting, glass bead making, painting, and printmaking.

Four featured artists shared their expertise involving painting with mixed media, wet glazing with watercolour, pottery, northern lights painting, and filigree jewelry.

“I want to thank the instructors, participants, staff, and volunteers for making this year’s Series Summer Art Workshops memorable,” said Thomsen. “We look forward to continue providing opportunities for attendees to learn from practicing artists, collaborate with one another, and advance their knowledge and skills.”
