The Midale Library has had a busy few months since moving to its new location. The larger venue has allowed the library to expand its programming and offer a wider range of programs to patrons.
Jeri-Lee Jones, head librarian at the Midale Library, said the summer has been a lot of fun so far.
“This summer we’ve had some really awesome events. We’ve had Mr. Eric come and perform at our library, and we also had the Saskatchewan Science Centre outreach program with our children here in town.”
The library has also been at Mainprize Beach every Thursday with the library on location.
“We do activities with the kids, offer opportunities to sign up for a library card, return library books, and check out some new ones.”
Jones noted that the library has been expanding programming to meet the needs of the community, including more programming for teens. “In mid-June, we launched our teens' Dungeons and Dragons program, which has had a phenomenal turnout every week.”
Older adults in the community are also benefiting from the programming, with a seniors' chair exercise program utilizing multimedia.
“We’ve expanded our electronics here in our branch to be able to incorporate these awesome programs,” Jones said.
She added that the outdoor space at the library has also been an asset when it comes to programming.
“We are able to go outside into our nice courtyard and have activities outside. We have a picnic table out there and are working towards getting some other things going. But right now, we have our story walk on until Aug. 9, so people can come from the community, walk through the courtyard, read a story with their family, and do some activities.”
The building has been receiving continuous upgrades, with a new parking lot, new flooring throughout the kitchen, and a new step added at the entrance.
“It’s just such a welcoming environment. I consistently hear the community praise this wonderful location and what this building means to our community. It’s just amazing to see all the changes and hear all this wonderful feedback from our community.”
The library has a few more plans for the summer, including its annual Bouncy Castle Fundraiser, which will take place at the Threshermen’s Reunion on Saturday.
“For $10 per child for the day, we encourage families to come out and support our library while their children have fun.”
