The Estevan Police Service had a busy day on July 30, dealing with multiple incidents, including a vehicle theft and a traffic enforcement initiative.
Police received information regarding a stolen vehicle reportedly seen at Boundary Dam campground. The RCMP assisted EPS in locating and arresting the driver, a 16-year-old female from Estevan. The vehicle was returned to its registered owners.
“In this case, everybody’s known to each other and the young person that took it just didn’t have permission to have it or wouldn’t return it,” explained EPS Sgt. Tyler McMillen. “They were located and arrested, and she will face charges of taking a vehicle without the owner's consent.”
Officers also responded to a call at a store in the central part of the city after receiving a report of a person consuming marijuana in a vehicle. The vehicle was not located, but police are reminding the public that it is illegal to consume cannabis in a vehicle.
A traffic enforcement initiative focused on speed, intersections, and other traffic concerns resulted in six violation tickets and several warnings.
EPS also conducted a well-being check on children at the request of their father. The children, who were with their mother, were found in good health. Members mediated between both parties during ongoing custodial and visitation matters.
