The Golden West Taste of Summer Charity BBQ has brought in a new record amount this year as money was raised for SaskAbilities' Camp Easter Seal.
The BBQ sold hotdogs, water, and cookies to people in front of Sholter Horsman, raising $1,067 for the camp.
Deana Stroshein, who works for SaskAbilities, talks about how that money helps out Camp Easter Seal.
"Camp Easter Seal is located by Watrous on the shores of Lake Manitou and it is the only fully accessible summer camp here in Saskatchewan, so it's completely accessible for those experiencing disability. Everything from the walkways to the cabins, to the swimming pool, the playground, and the boat, everything is fully accessible so all barriers are removed, so everybody who attends Camp Easter Seal can fully participate in every aspect of it.
"It costs about $2000 for one individual to attend Camp Easter Seal, but because of the incredible support we received throughout the entire province, campers attend completely free of charge."
One of those campers is Peter Marcotte, who helped out with the BBQ by cooking up the hotdogs.
He says that the camp is tons of fun, with plenty, to do, and he loves being able to take a few days off work and enjoy himself.
Camp Easter Seal is open to all ages, and people can learn more about it by visiting SaskAbilities' website.
Roberta Derosier, the program coordinator at Estevan Diversified Services, says that the camp is a big help for people here in the southeast.
"We wanted to come out and support the BBQ because a lot of our participants at Estevan Diversified go to Camp Easter Seal every year, typically around 20 of them go every year and they absolutely love it. So it's kind of important to us to come out and help them out."
One final charity BBQ will be held next week at Canuckade Rentals, with funds being raised for Estevan Minor Football.
