With Saskatchewan Day fast approaching, some people will be taking the time to go camping, with Moose Mountain often a destination for those in the southeast.

Camp Manager Kim Brown talks about some of the events they have planned for the weekend.

"We have a few events and programming happening this long weekend and with something such as theme day programming on Saturday, Saturday's name is Furry Trade Frenzy."

"We also have nearby at Cannington Manor on Sunday, August 4th from 1:00 to 4:00 you can experience the Cannington Fair. This annual event allows visitors to explore the village site and recreated buildings and experience what life would have been like in the Victorian-era settlement. You can take part in activities at your own pace. Including a petting zoo and horses, hand-turned ice cream, picnic games, crafts, and more."

People can find the full list of events for the weekend on Saskatchewan Park's website.

Heat is expected to be a big factor on Friday, which Brown says is different from the past couple months at the park.

"Heat's always a good thing with camping. We've had a cooler May and June, so we welcome the heat and we've seen some good numbers overall for camping. It has been a little bit, you know, heat a little bit of smoky conditions from up north. But overall it's been a great camping experience and we've had great turnout for sure."

To help out campers the visitor's centres are cooled with A/C so people have a place to go if they need to cool down.

Brown says that even though the upcoming weekend is a civic holiday, rather than a national one, there's not much difference in reception between the two.

"All of our holidays are very important within parks and we just are happy to celebrate any of those events that kind of go throughout. We always just love seeing people come here and you know putting smiles on everyone's faces."

Brown hopes everyone has a safe and relaxing August long weekend.
