It is a sure sign that we are in the second half of summer. The ice is in at Crescent Point Place.

“Our crews are busy getting the rinks ready for the year,” said Andrew Crowe, the Director of Leisure Services with the City of Weyburn. “We will be opening next week, Monday, at Crescent Point Place for the 2024-25 season.”

When it comes to the installation of ice, it isn’t as simple as just turning down the temperature, and turning on the water. The crews add layers and also have to do things like paint the lines into the ice. Then, there is the work off the ice surface as well.

“They’ve done a lot of work to the facility – cleaning it up, painting dressing rooms, cleaning things, just getting ready for the start of a new season,” said Crowe. “We’re pretty excited to open the doors and let some people in there.”

While the ice is in at Crescent Point Place, it will be a wait for the ice in the Tom Zandee Sports Arena. Crowe noted the ice won’t be installed there until mid-September.
