Mainprize Regional Park has a special event planned for tonight to kick off the August long weekend. They'll be hosting a free Movie Night at Pederson Place.

But it's not just any kind of movie night. It's a "Drive-In" movie event being played on the outdoor screen, featuring the new Garfield movie.

General Manager Michelle Walsh said there is no room on the deck for real cars, but children are encouraged to create and bring their own.

"We would like all the kids to either make a pretend car, or bring a blanket, and have a little fun with it," she invited. "We do have some seating available on our Peterson Place deck, too. "We just thought it would be something fun to do for any of the kiddos that are either in the park or if parents are looking for something to do for just a nice family evening, it'll be a good show to come out and watch."

Walsh added they have a concession in Pederson Place so patrons who don't bring snacks can purchase popcorn, chips, chocolate bars, or drinks.

"We don't have a huge busy weekend of events booked for this long weekend because obviously we support the local rodeo and we encourage everyone from our campgrounds to go," she noted.

Beginning this weekend and running throughout the month of August, Mainprize Regional Park will host Yoga on the Beach on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m., each week with a different instructor from OM Yoga Studio in Estevan.

"You can bring your own mat and blocks if you have them or want to, and the instructors are fantastic," Walsh shared. "With first-time beginners, you just want to see what it's about, we're welcoming everyone to come out. I think that's going to be a really fun time."

She said the $50 registration for all four classes can be done via email to events@mainprizepark.com, and they also offer a drop-in rate of $15 per class.

"It's just something really nice to bring to the Mainprize community and for people who want to maybe take a Sunday morning drive and just come and enjoy the scenery around here. I think the weather's been really good for it so I'm excited about it coming here for the next month."

Walsh said one of her favourite events at the park, and their second-biggest tournament throughout the season, is coming up next weekend, the Annual Ladies Tournament.

"We are still accepting registrations for that, and that's on August 9th here at Mainprize," she said. "They can call our Pro Shop to register. Everything's out on our social media, but of course, to get all the details and register your team or even if you don't have a team and you just want to come out, we can definitely put you together with somebody."
