As we gear up for the Saskatchewan Day long weekend, it’s the perfect time to celebrate the province we proudly call home. Our team at Discover Estevan bring diverse insights and experiences, with members hailing from different corners of the country and the world, each bringing a unique flavour to our community.
Meet the newest Saskatchewan resident—me! Originally from Woodstock, Ontario, I'm now enjoying my third summer here. The openness of Saskatchewan is truly breathtaking. After spending most of my life in bustling cities, the unpolluted skies and serene beaches here feel like paradise. Working at Discover Estevan has been my gateway to exploring this vast, beautiful province.
Scott Boulton, a fellow reporter in newsroom made the move to Estevan just over three and a half years ago from Reston, Manitoba. He cherishes the warm-hearted people of Saskatchewan and is continually amazed by the community's generosity and dedication to charitable causes, with goals always being met at local events.
Daniel Espelien, the unmistakable voice of Sun 102.3, has been a Saskatchewan resident for a decade, hailing from Lethbridge Alberta. He’s a fan of the province’s breathtaking skies and has a special fondness for the rocks at Roche Percee. Daniel urges everyone to explore this hidden gem.
“Even if you follow the road down to the Roche Percee Campground, you’ll discover countless beautiful spots along the way,” Daniel noted.
Cori Maenpaa, our trusted employee experience manager, is another Ontario transplant who embraced Saskatchewan 12 years ago. She can't get enough of the province’s stunning sunsets that paint the sky in mesmerizing hues.
Linda Bartschat, our longest reigning account manager moved to Estevan over 12 years ago coming from Saxony, a quaint town near Dresden in East Germany, adores the open skies and the more manageable winters here. Linda is an avid lake enthusiast, with Cypress Hills, Gem Lake, Waskesiu, and Candle Lake topping her list of favorites.
Lemuel Alquino, our Program Director and reporter, journeyed from the Philippines 12 years ago. He’s captivated by the plethora of camping spots across the province. His top pick for visitors? Waskesiu Lake in Prince Albert National Park.
“A close second, of course, is Boundary Dam south of Estevan. I spent many childhood summers at that beach and lake. It’s where I discovered my passion for media, working on high school projects filmed there. It’s a place that’s deeply special to me,” Lemuel shared.
Elyse Mantei, our dynamic new account manager, made the move from Victoria, B.C., and has been calling Saskatchewan home for 21 years. She’s a die-hard Roughriders fan and loves discovering the hidden gems of the smaller campgrounds in the southeast.
Thank you, Saskatchewan, for your warm embrace and for letting us make this incredible province our home. As we continue to discover the charm and wonders of Estevan, the southeast, and beyond, we are grateful for the welcoming spirit and boundless opportunities that Saskatchewan offers.
