Four days of fun start today in Nanton.

The annual Nanton Roundup Days Starts today (August 2), and it'll feature a long list of events over all four days of the long weekend.

On Saturday, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and celebration are being held at the Canadian Grain Elevator Discovery Centre following a banner year that saw them place third in the national Next Great Save contest.

Tours of the elevators will also be held by donation each day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturday will also see the 15th Nanton Children's Festival held at Centennial Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Two free pancake breakfasts are being held over the weekend, hosted by the Nanton Lions Club at the Nanton Community Centre. Saturday's goes from 8-10 a.m., with Monday's scheduled from 7-9 a.m.

Among Sunday's lineup is the annual Chamber of Commerce Chili Cook-Off.

Dana Zielke with the chamber says the free event is pretty well known in the region.

"It's been happening for about 20 years, and last year, one of the town councillors, Kevin Todd, won. He beat a lady from Blackie. We have people from High River, Okotoks, Calresholm, Lethbridge, they come up and enter this chili cookoff. People walk around the town with little spoons, and they sample and vote. Some years we've had really weird chili like white chili, and other years we've had ballistic chili. People really love it."

That evening at 9:45 p.m. is the Nanton Boosters and Promoters Fireworks Display at Lions Grove Park and Boomer's Hill.

Zielke says Nanton's grain elevators will get another nod at Monday's big event, the Nanton Boosters Parade.

"This parade is huge, this year we are saluting the grain elevators because of the publicity they've had this year and for how hard the volunteer team is working to make it a great tourist attraction in Nanton."

The parade kicks off at 10 a.m. on Monday.

The full event schedule can be seen below.
