The Town of Okotoks will be hosting a Chili Cookoff later this month.

This Cookoff is part of the Town's Summer Round Up event, which also has a corn-on-the-cob relay eating contest called the "Cobzilla Challenge!", an outdoor artisan market, and family-themed activities.

For the cookoff, contestants must prepare and cook either chili or chili-inspired foods, such as chili dogs, chili fries, shepherd's pie, chili empanadas, and more.

Cargill has already donated 25 pounds of ground beef for the competition, so contestants don't have to bring their own beef if they don't want to, and Sobeys Okotoks will be providing 10 per cent off of supplies and ingredients that contestants may need for the cookoff.

4 oz. serving cups, utensils, ATCO Gas commercial barbeques (propane included), and chili cookers (propane not included) will be provided for the contestants.

Because this event is in downtown Okotoks, Elizabeth Street from Northridge Drive to Veterans Way will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Summer Round Up event, featuring the Chili Cookoff, will take place on Saturday, August 24th, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the Town will have a bike valet onsite to keep bikes safe while their owners are tasting the chili options.

During the cookoff, attendees of the event will be able to vote for the "People's Choice Best Chili" award, meanwhile, a judging panel will select the "Judges Choice" winner.

Registration for the cookoff will be open until August 9th, and contestants have to pay a $50 registration fee.
