UPDATE: Today, Parks Alberta closed the Burstall Pass Day Use Area and surrounding trails due to the wildfire.

An out-of-control wildfire has been detected in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park in Kananaskis Country by wildfire officials.

The fire is located northeast of Burnstall Lake, south of Horgath Lakes, and about seven km south of Mount Engadine Lodge.

Currently under investigation, It was recorded at 8:17 p.m. during last night's lightning storm and initially estimated to be 1.20 hectares.

Anastasia Drummond, wildfire information officer for Calgary Forest Area (CFA), says despite exporting crews to assist with wildfires burning in northern Alberta earlier this season, sufficient staffing levels and equipment have been maintained locally.

"As we are now in extreme wildfire danger, we have further bolstered our local firefighting resources to respond quickly to any new wildfire starts," she states. "Helicopters, heavy equipment, wildland firefighting crews, and airtankers are all available."

The entire Calgary Forest Area remains under a fire ban. Propane fire pits are still allowed during a fire ban but wood-burning fires, charcoal briquettes, fireworks, and exploding targets are all prohibited. To report wildfires, call 310-FIRE.
