On July 30, 2024, at 11:21 a.m., Rocky Mountain House RCMP received a firearms complaint from a residence on O’Chiese First Nation. Upon arrival, emergency responders located a male with serious injuries.

Despite lifesaving efforts, the male, who has been identified as a 27-year-old Sunchild First Nation resident, was pronounced deceased. The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has been deployed and has taken charge of the investigation.

RCMP are requesting that anyone with dashcam footage on July 30, 2024, between 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in the area of the O'Chiese Main Road on O'Chiese First Nation please contact the RCMP.

BACKGROUND STORY

At 2:14 a.m., on Saturday (Aug. 3), the Rocky Mountain House RCMP advised there was a heavy police presence on O'Chiese First Nation.

While police responded to a firearms complaint, local residents were asked to avoid the area.

At 7:44 a.m., on Saturday, RCMP advised that police had cleared from the scene. 

An update is expected.
