The Burstall Lake Wildfire did not grow substantially overnight but remains classified as out of control.
The wildfire is located in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park about 10 km south of the Spray Lakes Reservoir. It is currently estimated at 1.2 hectares.
The fire was assessed at 8:17 p.m. on Aug. 2, and crews immediately responded and bucketed the wildfire. Active suppression continues.
In her latest update, Anastasia Drummond, wildfire information officer for Calgary Forest Area (CFA), says 20 wildland firefighters and a helicopter for crew movement and bucketing the fire are on scene. Airtankers are in the area and available if requested/required.
Heavy equipment will be staged locally should they be required.
"There is no immediate threat to any infrastructure or communities," Drummond states.
The Smith Dorrien Trail (Hwy. 742) remains open, but crews, aircraft, and smoke may be visible.
Local trail closures are in effect in the immediate vicinity. Drummond recommends checking the Alberta Parks website for current information on impacted trails.
The fire is believed to have been caused by a lightning strike during a storm passing through the area.
