Mainprize Regional Park, in its ideal location just halfway between Weyburn and Estevan, has plenty to offer the whole family, even for those who aren't into camping.

General Manager Michelle Walsh said the water on their beach has had no reports of swimmers itch thanks to the constant movement being so close to the marina.

"We have quite a bit of movement still going because our beaches near the marina and just with some of the flow is still coming down from the reservoirs. So we're very grateful we are not experiencing that problem at this time on our beach," she shared.

Walsh said the heat waves we experienced over the past few weeks saw plenty of people heading to the water for a cool down, we do have our water trampoline back so we've noticed that there's been quite a few people enjoying and taking part and utilizing that with the hot weather and getting to jump in off the water trampoline. So that's been a big hit again this year on the beach."

She said there has been some algae due to the heat, but, "I can say that it's not terrible. The water still very much enjoyable and swimming's been great, but we are definitely starting to see some of that as it flows down the reservoir for sure."

The beach isn't the only attraction for those heading out to the park, which is located just west of Midale.

"I think the nice thing for us is we are a very short distance between Weyburn or Estevan, so you don't have to go too far. We don't have the big water set up like some parks, but it's definitely something fun to keep the kids busy for an afternoon."

She said there are gazebos on the beach for those who like to stay in the shade. There's also a play structure, and on Sundays throughout August, they're also hosting Yoga on the Beach.

"We have a lot to offer in the day for anyone who's interested in just picking up and coming out for a day. They have a restaurant here on site. There's a local store, so you can even fill up on gas if you need. And we've got lots of little different attractions besides our beach or golfing, so it can be a really fun day for anybody who's just interested in checking it out. They also offer boat rentals out here," she said. "You can paddle board, kayak, or rent pedal boats. You name it, they've got it for rent. They've got a pontoon boat and a fishing boat that you're able to rent if it's available. So there's definitely you can take a lot of the workout by just grabbing a day trip. If you have a valid voters license, you can rent one of their boats and go out for a day of whatever you like on the lake. That's all done through our local folks at the Dam Store."

Camping season, said Walsh, has been busier than ever.

"It's been a pretty great season so far and the only thing we really haven't filled up is on our overflow. So there's still opportunity for people to come out and visit and have a camping experience. We do have some great shaded tenting site areas for anyone who would like to do the tenting side."
