The Town of High River will be pruning and removing some large poplar trees on 12 Ave SW this week.

Crews started yesterday and will be working through to this Friday, August 9 and will be taking down some trees which will involve intermittent closures along the route.

The trees that need to be removed are old and are becoming too fragile, which poses a safety risk.

The Town asks you to use caution while traveling along the busy avenue and watch for signage and workers.

The Town also sent out a warning about the Emerald Ash Borer beetle.

The highly destructive invasive beetle attacks and kills all species of ash trees.

Over 600 mature ash trees line the boulevards and greenspaces in High River and the town takes part in the EAB monitoring program.

The program includes two sticky trap locations in town and if you notice any issues with ash trees you're asked to contact the Parks Department.

The Town of High River no longer lists ash trees as an approved tree species in town.

You can find more information on the beetle here.
