Richard “Tricky” Laframboise
(August 24, 1936 – August 3, 2024)

Tricky was one of 15 children born to Alcide and Cecelia of North Bay, Ontario.

He was predeceased by his daughter Michelle, his parents, 2 brothers and 5 sisters.

He is now survived by son Michael, and grandkids Alex and Kelsy, 3 brothers and 4 sisters, and wife Lynne of 48 years.

Tricky served in the RCAF from 1954- 1958 and is a Portage Legion member. He worked with the CNR from 1954 to 1961 in The Pas and Dauphin. He moved to Winnipeg where he was employed in the insurance, car and RV business.
After moving to Portage he became GM of the Portage Terriers, owned the JB Terriers, managed the Portage Hawks, managed the Portage Diamonds, Rookie in the Liniment League, and also President of the League. His life was consumed by sports; playing hockey, baseball, umpiring baseball for 30 years and refereeing hockey for 30 years.

He was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame with two different teams; The Pas Teepees and the Dauphin Red Birds. He was also inducted into the Manitoba Fastball Hall of Fame with the Portage Diamonds.
He operated Tricky’s Amusement Centre & Driving Range, Tricky’s Dicky Dee Ice Cream, the Chip Box, and in more recent years Tricky’s New & 2nd Hand Store.

After his retirement he used to spend a couple of evenings a week playing Texas Hold’em at the Keesh.

The last couple of years he spent at home due to his debilitating breathing condition, to which he finally succumbed. He died peacefully at age 87 soon after being admitted to the Portage Hospital.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and his ashes will be interred at the Asessippi Cemetery near Inglis, MB.
