The Winkler Library hosted an epic scavenger hunt event on Tuesday afternoon, August 6th, drawing in excited participants.

“The scavenger hunt is different from the one we've had ongoing throughout the summer. This one is more exclusive, using riddles and different prompts to get kids involved in the actual books and around our decorations around the library," said Isaiah Armstrong, Summer Programmer. “It gets kids in areas of the library where they're not used to going. Once they get older, then they kind of know the layout of the library a lot more.”

Groups of friends arrived to solve riddles and compete for the top three fastest times, with prizes awarded to the winners. The event featured two versions to accommodate different age groups: a regular scavenger hunt for ages eight and older, and a Junior version for kids ages seven and under.

“I always come here with my kids all year long, and I love the summer reading program. I have a four-year-old, who absolutely loves the program because parents are allowed to read to the kids, and that counts as points. We come and pick out prizes because we do a lot of reading at home," said parent Lisa Wolfe “Free programs for kids. That's the best part.”

No registration was needed, making it easy for families to drop in and join the fun. With an approximate completion time of 30 minutes, the scavenger hunt kept participants engaged and entertained throughout the afternoon, searching around the library. Tuesdays continue to be one of the busiest days at the library, and this event certainly added to the energetic atmosphere.

“The library has always been a fixture of the community, but if you get kids interested in the library, they'll grow up into adults that are interested in the library, and that makes a healthier community, and library system," said Mikaela Warkentin, Summer Programmer.
