Woodlawn Regional Park hosted its inaugural Party in the Park event this weekend, drawing just over 300 attendees who rocked the night away to celebrate the Saskatchewan Day long weekend.

The headline act was Mascara, a pop rock band who hail from Regina. This year marked the first time Party in the Park took place, explained Daoust. The event was held in place of the Beach Bash to introduce the public to the new Binzebo at Woodlawn.

Daoust noted that several factors contributed to the event’s relocation, including safety and logistics. “We thought that being closer to town might result in better attendance, and it’s easier for us to host events here. At the Beach Bash, we had to set up a lot of temporary fencing and manage a lot of movement,” she said.

Safety considerations were also a factor, as higher security is required at the Beach Bash due to its proximity to water.

It has not yet been decided whether Party in the Park will become a permanent part of Woodlawn’s summer programming or if it will rotate with the Beach Bash. Daoust mentioned that the decision will be made by a board vote.

Music and events continue at Woodlawn this month with the Sask. Express performing on August 6, at the open-air stage at Boundary Dam. On Saturday, August 10, the park will host Funfest Additionally, the second installment of Open Mic Night, hosted by Michael’s Coffee Shop, will take place at the Binzebo on Thursday, August 15.
