Speeding comes at a price, as an Estevan motorist learned the hard way when she was caught driving over double the speed limit, resulting in an $809 ticket.
The driver was stopped by Estevan Police Service on Tuesday night driving 101 km/h in a 50 km/h zone down Kensington Ave. In addition to the ticket she was issued a seven-day driving suspension, and her vehicle was impounded.
“Even if it was the middle of the night, 101 in a 50 zone, that’s excessive, that’s concerning,” said EPS Sergeant Tyler McMillen.
He added that it wouldn’t take much for something to go terribly wrong with many pedestrians taking advantage of the nice weather in a busy area of town.
“We hope that people understand that in the city, the posted speed limits are for the safety of everybody, so you never know who might be out.”
The summer months can be a great time to go cruising, but some people mistake this as a time to make risky moves, assuming the road is safe. However, with a variety of other vehicles also enjoying the weather, everyone needs to be responsible on the road. EPS keeps track of areas and enforces speed limits as best as it can.
“We do have people that call in, and we appreciate that; it gives us an idea of areas that we need to work on and be there,” said McMillen. “So we just ask the public to be smart about their driving decisions.”
