The latest fundraiser for the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation (HDHF) is one for the birds. Birdhouses, that is.

Right now, the HDHF is holding an online auction for a chance to own a JR’s Designer Birdhouse.

Executive Director Lorrie Bunko says the HDHF received the birdhouses courtesy of a donation from the Remais of JR’s Designer Birdhouse. She noted that John Remai has decided to retire and has donated the remaining 66 birdhouses to the HDHF.

Bunko wanted to give everyone an equal opportunity to own one of the unique birdhouses.

“We thought that we would start an online auction, so everyone had a fair chance to be able to get the last of these.”

She noted people will get their money’s worth with the purchase of the unique birdhouses.

“All of the birdhouses are all painted with a Behr outdoor paint, so very durable paint, there’s no need to put a protective coating on these.”

She added that each birdhouse has its own distinct feature and noted the pieces of art are a perfect addition to your garden bed or your backyard.

Proceeds of the online auction for the birdhouses will go towards the funding of two new electrocardiograms (ECGs). The ECGs are one of the simplest and fastest tests used to evaluate the heart.  Electrodes are placed at certain spots on the chest, arms, and legs.

You can visit the HDHF’s website and click under the News & Events tab to find the link to the birdhouse auction. There is also a direct link to the auction that can be found on the HDHF’s Facebook page.

Bunko said the auction platform the HDHF is using is very user friendly, where a user can submit their bid for a birdhouse, and then they will be asked to fill out their information. She added that there are no fees incurred with the platform allowing the auction's proceeds to go to the HDHF.

The online auction will close at 1:00 pm, on Saturday, August 10.
