The Town of High River Protective Services is working to combat bike thefts through the use of a website.

Constable Manpreet Kaler with the High River RCMP detachment says it's a way to register your bike on a national level.

"If you buy a new bike or if you have your current bike right now, flip it over and take a look at the serial number and write that down. Then set up an account at bike index dot org (bikeindex.org) and enter your serial number there. Once you do that you have it in the system. If it ever gets stolen down the road you can mark it as stolen. And obviously, come and report it to us as well."

And the High River RCMP has brought back the Positive Ticketing program again this summer.

Constable Kaler says they already have the treats lined up for kids for riding safely or doing good things in the community.

"This year we're going to be doing the Freezies instead. We'll be running around with a cooler. If we see anyone with a helmet on or kids doing good things we'll be handing out some Freezies."

The Positive Ticketing program lasts until the end of the summer holidays.
