The Alberta RCMP Auto Theft Unit began investigating into suspected re-vinned vehicles last February.
After being re-vinned, the vehicles where then registered in Leduc and the Calgary area.
Due to the investigation, authorities were able recover a RAM 2500, RAM 1500, and a Chevrolet Cruze, which all had previously been re-vinned.
Since the cost of the vehicles that were recovered sits at approximately $175,000, and because the RCMP had also seized a loaded 9 mm handgun that had its serial number removed, 26-year-old Arshdeep Mallhi from Calgary has been charged with four counts of Uttering a Forged Document, Trafficking in Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000n Unsafe Storage of a Firearm, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle, Unauthorized Possession of a Restricted Firearm, and Possession of a Firearm with a Tampered Serial Number.
Mallhi has been released from custody to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Leduc on August 15th.
