Winnipegger Skylar Park is bringing home a bronze medal from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Park overcame Lebanon's Laetitia Aoun 2-0 to win Canada's first taekwondo medal since Karine Sergerie won silver at the 2008 Beijing Games.

Park defeated Dominika Hronova of Czechia 2-0 in her first match of the day in the round of 16. She then lost to South Korea's Kim Yujin, but because Kim defeated China's Luo Zongshi and advanced to the finals, Park had another opportunity to get into the medal rounds.

The 25-year-old Winnipeg native previously appeared in the Olympics in 2020's Tokyo Games. She reached the quarterfinals that year, and in 2022 won her third straight gold medal at the Pan American Championships, according to her bio on Canada's Olympic website.

Both Park's father and grandfather are taekwondo masters and she began training at just two-years-old.
