Despite the cold and windy weather on August 8th, The Potato Store in Winkler's Family Day Nature Walk event brought together an impressive crowd.

"This event is a wonderful way for families to enjoy the trail, explore the store, and truly feel a part of the community. Our goal is always to welcome everyone, whether it's familiar faces or new ones, and create a space where people can connect, relax, and enjoy a family-friendly atmosphere," said Kathy Wieler, Store Supervisor. "Kids bring such energy to everything, and that's why we love hosting tours... many people don’t even realize the nature sanctuary is right here in Winkler, so it's great to give them that 'wow' moment of discovery."

From 10 AM to 2 PM, families participated in guided nature walks along the Discovery Nature Sanctuary trail, where kids were eagerly engaged in a scavenger hunt. The event, hosted by The Potato Store, offered more than just outdoor activities—there were draws, prizes, and snacks for everyone.

"It was good, informative, something a little different," said participant Jennifer Lowen. "I think it was awesome. It's a good way to be involved... and it was very interesting."

Julie Ginter, The Potato Store's purchasing manager, expressed excitement about the turnout, noting the large groups that attended in the morning.

"We're thrilled to see all the support, all the people coming out, enjoying the store, the sanctuary, and we just hope that we can create more awareness of agriculture, the Discovery Nature Sanctuary, and some of these wonderful things that Manitoba has to offer," said Ginter.

Despite the weather, the event was a success, leaving attendees looking forward to future community events at The Potato Store.
