The legacy continues to build for the Decor Cabinets Charity Golf Classic, with the 21st edition of the fundraiser happening Thursday at Minnewasta Golf and Country Club.

"It means a lot," shared Dave Schellenberg, tournament director, who noted it was a full event, once again, with 144 golfers. "It's a big way we can give back to the community, but also share our values, our culture, who we are and what we want to represent to the community. That's a big part of the tournament, and of course, the biggest part of the tournament is raising money for these four local charities that we had today."

Those charities are YFC Morden, Pembina Counselling Centre and Pembina Valley Pregnancy Care Centre which have been supported by the fundraiser since the beginning, with the fourth changing every year. This year 500 Stephen Street in Morden was selected.

"The fourth charity changes each year, and is based on what ownership, Stan and Connie Pauls, want to do for that year, and this year they decided on 500 Stephen Street which is the local food cupboard and community centre, which is a great choice," he explained. "We all know with with price of inflation on food, and all these things, there's a bigger need than ever for services such as that, so we thought it was a great opportunity to build help this year."

Decor Cabinets C.E.O and owner Stan Pauls shared it's humbling to host the tournament annually.

"I'm always reminded that each each one of us can make a difference in someone else's life, when we get together we can make a huge difference in many people's lives," shared Pauls. "It's just an honour to be able to connect with many of our suppliers, supporters, friends, to get together and to raise some money for those four awesome charities."

Schellenberg extended his thanks to all those who have continued to support the event.

"Big thanks to all the local community and our suppliers who have helped create this," he said. "They've really partnered with us to try to provide the support for the charities that we're able to generate with this. We're viewing this as a partnership, where they're liking the cause. They like what we're doing, and they're getting behind it. It's very satisfying to see that we can all get together to support the same cause."

And how much money was raised this year? Schellenberg pegs the early estimate at just under $110,000 bringing the overall total generated from the Decor Cabinets Charity Golf Classic to nearly $1.66 million since its inception.
