Cold has crept into the southeast with temperatures getting to record lows in many parts of Saskatchewan.
Environment Canada recorded the following records in the province:
Coronach at –0.4 degrees (record 3 degrees set in 1996)
Assiniboia at 1.4 degrees (record 5.5 degrees set in 1989)
Lucky Lake at 1.5 degrees (record 6.2 degrees set in 2019)
Elbow at 1.9 degrees (record 4.6 degrees set in 2019)
Meadow Lake 2.4 degrees (record 2.6 degrees set in 2013)
Weyburn 2.8 degrees (beating the record of 4.4 degrees from 1961)
Outlook 3.3 degrees (tying the record in 1952)
Rockglen 4.1 degrees (beating the record of 6.6 degrees in 2013)
People watching Estevan's temperature may have seen a new record being set, but that was just a mirage thanks to some faulty data.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Natalie Hasell says that the real record was a bit lower than what was recorded.
"The record for the 8th of August for the lowest minimum temperature is 3.3 degrees set in 1910. So the 4 degrees that you folks got is the third coldest 8th of August temperature, so no record broken, unfortunately - or fortunately."
Hasell says that's thanks to the almanac website missing some earlier dates that hold the real records.
"The Almanac on the website, the part of the page that is averages and extremes, does not use the full record of data that we have for this station. So, if we look at what's mentioned here, the lowest temperature is looked at from 1945 to 2014. We have had data in the Estevan area since 1900 and we still have data in the Estevan area so you can't trust the Almanac on our web page, it's a known problem, we are aware."
Hasell says that they're trying to convince people that the site should be fixed, with the site being slightly misleading.
