Special Olympics Weyburn (S.O.W.) recently put out a call for a new influx of board members, as well as volunteers.
Community Manager Joanne Paxman said they need program coordinators, a treasurer, and a marketing and publicity person, who would also handle their social media accounts.
"They don't have to have been involved with Special Olympics at all, or have any knowledge," she explained. "It's just filling positions on the board."
She said they also welcome members at large to complete their board of eight, with only three current directors. Paxman can be reached at 306-861-1555, via Facebook messenger, via email to communitymanagersow@gmail.com; or via the Special Olympics Saskatchewan website.
Paxman said their monthly meetings could change to every other month once they have a full board of eight. Currently, there are only three directors.
S.O.W. received a Community Fund Grant from the Weyburn Credit Union in June for the purchase of some new bowling shirts.

"It's well overdue because we didn't even have enough shirts for them to compete at the last tournament. There was one or two that didn't even get a shirt to wear. So that's unfortunate. But so now we're set for the next season and moving forward for the next few years," shared Paxman.
She said the sport starts back up again in October, and with their recent call for new board members, they also have been seeking more volunteers to help facilitate at the bowling alley.
"So it's just coming to the lanes between 4 and 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, once bowling starts, and just helping them. Maybe they need their help tying their shoes. Maybe they need help with the ball before they throw. Picking the balls up, cheering them on. I guarantee if you try it once, if you come down and even just watch, you'll be back, because it's a lot of fun, and the athletes love it."
The organization currently offers just two sports for their athletes, bowling and swimming.
"Our focus is filling the board member positions and we've been doing some fundraising right now also. Once we have the board members, then we can move along with more sports to add to the ones that we do have. If we could get the board positions filled, then the volunteers that coach can focus on coaching and running the sports instead of trying to be a board member and do some coaching and volunteering."
Paxman noted that once they acquire more board members and more volunteers, they hope to start a bocci program.
"Usually what happens is the ones that do bowling will do bocci, and there'll be some that just wanna do bocci. But some will just want bocci or floor hockey or we were talking about getting basketball going. So that's what we're looking at for the future."
She added they will hold their Annual General Meeting on September 17th at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room at the Weyburn Credit Union.
