Registration for the Weyburn Big Brothers Big Sisters After School Program has officially launched. Find the link HERE.

Launching in September, in partnership with the City of Weyburn, the program will be held at the Weyburn Credit Union Spark Centre.

“From the relationships that the workers create with the children to program creation and implementation and then to activities, mentoring is what we do best and so we want to make sure that that is a common and embedded theme in all of our programming,” shared Amy Mohr, Director of Development and Communications for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Weyburn.

The program is meant to positively impact children in attendance on many fronts.

“All of the programming that we will be offering will be based on explorative, active, and creative play to stimulate children's abilities to grow socially, physically, intellectually, and emotionally. Our goal is to provide safe and nurturing spaces for children to make friends, develop respect for themselves and peers, and to grow socially, cognitively, creatively, and physically.”

The project was inspired when a need was felt for after-school programming, a survey was conducted a few months ago that confirmed this need.

“There are a couple of Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies in the country that offer before and after school care and so the model isn't a new one to our national organization necessarily. It was just something that we felt we could do on a pilot basis and see how it goes and hopefully continue on into the future.”

The program is expected to continue growing throughout and after the first year of operation.

“We will have spots for up to 30 kids for the pilot year of the program, which is the 2024-25 school year. Our hope and our goal for sure is to expand the program both in the number of spots available and that it is a permanent part of our community programming.”

The program will be fee-for-service; registration will be open in August.
