The longstanding Fire Ban in the Calgary Forest Area has been lifted.

Thanks to the significant precipitation the region has recently received, the wildfire danger in the Calgary Forest Area dropped to low, and the Fire Ban was lifted as of 4 p.m. on August 8.

While the Fire Ban has been lifted, there are still two active wildfires in the Calgary Forest Area.

One is located in the Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, about 10 km South of the Spray Lake Reservoir, and the other is approximately 25 km West of Water Valley, but both are classified as being under control.

As of January 1st, there have been 69 wildfires in the Calgary Forest Area, and 63.38 hectares have been burned.

The number of Fire Bans throughout all of Alberta's Provincial Parks has also dropped, drastically, since the end of July.

On July 30, there were 210 Fire Bans in place in Provincial Parks, but as of August 9, there are only 33.

Close to the Foothills County area, there are only three fire bans in place, with them being at the Willow Creek Provincial Park, Plateau Mountain Ecological Reserve, and the Bragg Creek Provincial Park.

While campfires are now allowed, it is still advised to attend to the fire at all times and make sure it is fully extinguished before leaving it unattended.
