The only Weyburn City Council meeting for August will be held tonight in Council Chambers at 6 p.m.
In addition to approval of accounts payable and audited financial statements, Council will vote on an RFP recommendation to award a contractor for the King Street Road Reconstruction & Rehabilitation Design, an RFP for the Construction of Equalization Lagoon Infrastructure Upgrades, and an RFP for the combined Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC) Feed System and Ammonia Modification project at the Water Treatment Plant.
Council will also be given an update from City Clerk Tina Clay on the 2024 municipal election, which is set to take place on November 13th, 2024. Poll dates, locations, budget, and election worker remuneration rates were set at the Regular Council Meeting on May 27th. Since then, a Candidate Package has been created for the 2024 Election web pages as well as an Election Worker Application. The website went live on July 30th and on July 31st the Election Worker Application was posted on the website and emailed to all previous election workers from the 2020 Municipal Election and the 2023 Municipal By-Election.
There will also be a demonstration given for navigating the election website.
The Saskatchewan of Rural Municipalities (SARM) manages the Clearing the Path (CTP) corridor system, developed to improve the economic development in rural communities by providing primary weight access to a network of corridors. CTP Corridors with a Weighted Truck Count (WTC) of 36 trucks per day or greater are eligible to receive $1,200 per kilometre.
Since 22nd Avenue is a primary road, it is under the jurisdiction of the City and the Rural Municipality of the Weyburn. The City owns the portion from Highway 35 to Evanston Drive, and the Rural Municipality of Weyburn has applied for their portion of 22nd Avenue. To be eligible for funding, an application is required from both municipalities, so in order to submit an application, SARM requires a resolution stating City Council supports the funding application.
