An Ontario man who had been living with family in Okotoks was recently found deceased in the Nordegg backcountry.

Rocky Mountain House RCMP were informed on August 5th that the 55-year-old hiker was overdue, which led to search and rescue efforts.

The hiker's vehicle was quickly found in the Coral Creek staging area, which led to the RCMP, Rocky Mountain House Search and Rescue (SAR), and the Kananaskis Emergency Services beginning a search for the missing hiker on August 6th.

Two days later, on August 8, the man was located deceased in Coral Creek by SAR volunteers and a helicopter crew.

The hiker was found approximately 12 kilometres from his vehicle.

After being taken out of the area, the man was brought to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and according to Public Information Officer with the Alberta RCMP, Corporal Troy Savinkoff, the death hasn't been deemed as suspicious, but it is still being investigated.

"Our investigators do believe this is an accidental death that occurred while he was hiking in that area," Cpl. Savinkoff explained.

The RCMP offer their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
