Fresh off the collegiate season with UNC Greensboro, Weyburn’s Jorde Chartrand joined the Southeast Carnduff Steelers for the Women’s Canadian Fast Pitch Championships, where the team was looking to make it back-to-back national titles. Chartrand could come out with some of her best performances ever on the mound, helping lead the Steelers to the title Sunday afternoon in Blackfalds, Alberta.

The Steelers would get through the round-robin stage of the tournament with just one loss, coming against Oakville in their fourth game of the event. Aside from that, the Steelers would rattle off five wins, putting them into second place.

Chartrand finished the round-robin with an ERA of 0.47, while also batting .438 for the tournament. This had her named as the all-star pitcher for the tournament, but she wasn’t done yet.

Saturday, they played Oakville in the 1-2 game, with the winner advancing to the finals, and the losers needing to play the third-place team for a shot at the gold. In the game Chartrand would go the distance on the mound, only allowing one earned run as the Steelers beat Oakville 5-4.

The Steelers would end up meeting Oakville in the finals again, playing the team for the third time at the tournament. Chartrand would again get the start on the mound, and would again go the distance allowing just one earned run on five hits.

Oakville however, would take a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. With the bases loaded, Chartrand would help her own cause, driving in three runs with a single, tying the game 3-3. A few more runs would put the Steelers up 6-3 heading into the seventh inning. Chartrand would get a flyout, a ground out and a strikeout as the Steelers closed out the game, giving them the gold medal.

Chartrand was also named the MVP for the tournament after her performance on the mound, and at the plate.
