As summer’s end draws nearer, the Estevan Public Library is gearing up for a series of exciting events to wrap up the season. Branch Manager Jason Redshaw joined the SUN 102 Morning Show to share details about the upcoming activities and programs scheduled for August.
The TD Summer Reading Club, a highlight of the library’s summer programming, will be coming to an end. To celebrate, the library is hosting a wrap-up party on August 16. “We will be giving out a ton of prizes for everyone who participated,” said Redshaw. “We're going to have some free pizza, pop and everything else for everybody here. So it's going to be a great time.”
With fall just around the corner, the library is also focusing on helping young people find employment opportunities. “We have a youth employment program here at the library,” Redshaw explained. “Our teen programmer, Lynn, runs it. We can help young workers get their Young Worker Certificate online, assist with resumes, and teach job searching skills.”
Redshaw also highlighted the convenience of the library’s app, which allows patrons to use their library card digitally. “It’s a push across the entire province of Saskatchewan. We now need to physically scan something, usually a card. However, we have the SILS app, so you can download that, and the card is right on your phone,” he said. “If you need help setting that up, just ask the staff here, and we’ll get it set up for you.”
Reflecting on the summer, Redshaw noted, “It’s been a great summer here at the library. The summer reading program has gone very well, and we’ve had great performers. It’s sad to see it coming to an end, but we always have a lot planned for the fall as well.”
