It is with heavy hearts the family of Donald Stockton (Don) announces his passing on Thursday August 8, 2024, at the age of 100 years. Don was born in Radville, Saskatchewan where he grew up on the family farm until his teen years when he moved with his parents to Saskatoon to attend technical school. Don joined the Air Force during the war and following his training was stationed in Asia Pacific.

Gratefully, he returned home to marry his sweetheart, Shirley on July 19, 1946. For 77 years they shared a life focused on family, friends and laughter. Don believed in helping people and was always available with a helping hand. Whether it be giving a ride to hockey practice, a meal and a shower to a stranger, or fixing a broken taillight on your car; if it was something he could do he would do it. He was an active member of St. Andrews United Church community, and especially loved being part of the choir. Don loved his family and highway driving. Summer vacations meant family road trips across Canada. These annual road trips across Canada to visit with family and friends were a summer staple for Don and Shirley until sadly Don’s sight started to go in 2009.

Don was a people person with the gift of the gab. He always had a story to share, of his childhood on the farm, his favourite horse, his short tenure at technical school, experiences in World War II, his time in the middle east, travels in England, or his love of the Alcan Highway to name just a few. If you had a minute, he had a story. We will miss those oft repeated gems.

Don is survived by his six children, Donna (Paul), Phyllis (Eric), Dwight, Lorna, Sheila (Pat) and Joe (Sheila); nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Don was predeceased by his beloved wife Shirley; his parents John and Effie Stockton; sisters Phyllis, Evelyn, Myrtle, Zelda; and brothers Carroll and Glen.

The family would like to thank the staff at Providence Place for their compassionate care of Don in his final years.

At Don’s request there will be no formal service.

Memorial donations in Don’s name may be made to MS Canada Suite 500 - 250 Dundas Street West, Toronto ON, M5T 2Z5 or The War Amps 1 Maybrook Drive Scarborough, Ontario M1V 5K9.
