Weyburn City Council met in Council Chambers at 6 p.m. last night, when approvals were made for RFPs, and for a funding application process for the City's portion of 22nd Avenue through the Clearing the Path (CTP) corridor system.

Communications Coordinator Kyle Hertes provided Council with a guided tour of the Elections 2024 website and encouraged the officials to familiarize themselves with it so they can better advise the citizens who may have inquiries. Find the site HERE

The 2024 municipal election is set to take place on November 13th, 2024.

During the elections discussion, Mayor Marcel Roy pointed out that anyone interested in running for municipal government could benefit from the SUMA School, included on the candidates' portion of the site.

"They have really developed and moved forward with that," he said. "I believe that it's a virtual one that you can tag into so that you can get an understanding of what governance is about and what they're doing."

"As a Premier had once said, 'know your lanes'. We have nothing to do with the hospitals, it's not our lane. We are police, and fire, we are roads, sidewalks, parks, and recreation."

Roy also commented on the concerns from some residents about the intersection of First Avenue and Government Road, noting the lights installation is waiting on SaskPower.

RFPs were voted on, one being a recommendation to award a contractor for the King Street Road Reconstruction & Rehabilitation Design. Following bids submitted in July, the contract was awarded to Walker Projects Inc. for a total of $29,900 (not including taxes).

The second RFP was for the Construction of Equalization Lagoon Infrastructure Upgrades. As a result of bids requested in June, the contract was awarded to Con-Tech General Contractors Ltd. at a quote of $ 2,039,070, as per the costs detailed and the conditions stipulated in the RFP.

Engineering Director Jennifer Wilkinson attended her last Council meeting in her role with the City of Weyburn, and she was presented with kind words from several members of Council as well as City Manager Mathew Warren on her time spent in the role.

As well, Finance Officer Laura Missal presented an explanation of the budget balance for 2023.
