A Winnipeg teen is recovering from a serious attack and another teen is facing several charges.

The Winnipeg Police Service says in a release that on August 10, 2024, at approximately 11 p.m., North District General Patrol officers responded to the 300 block of Selkirk Avenue for the report of a stabbing where a male youth was found to be suffering from "extensive serious injuries."

Members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service transported the youth to the hospital in critical condition. He was later upgraded to stable condition.

With the assistance of the Tactical Support Team (TST) and the K9 Unit, officers located a male youth suspect a short time later in the 300 block of Flora Avenue.

The investigation determined that the two youths were unknown to each other and became involved in a dispute. The situation escalated, and the male victim was knocked to the ground and assaulted by being kicked, punched and struck with the machete. He sustained life-altering injuries.

A 15-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Robbery
  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 4

He was detained in custody.

The Major Crimes Unit is continuing with the investigation; anyone with information is asked to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 204-986-6219 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org
