The first day of games is in the books for the Minor Box Lacrosse Nationals in Regina, and the teams from Saskatchewan had mixed results during the day yesterday.
The U13 co-ed team would run into a tough team from Ontario. Saskatchewan would have a tough time getting their offence going in the game and ultimately fell 10-0.
The U15 male squad played Quebec in their opening game of the tournament. They would get some stellar goaltending from Weyburn’s Quinton Stinson, who posted the shutout as Saskatchewan won 2-0.
The U15 female team was up against Nova Scotia for their first game. Nova Scotia took an early lead and then held on for a 3-1 victory.
The U17 male team also played a team from Nova Scotia. Weyburn’s Alex Labrecque was held off of the scoresheet, but Saskatchewan still recorded the win by a final of 4-2.
The U22 women’s team, which features seven players from Weyburn, would go up against Alberta in their opening game. Alberta would run up the score early and went on to a 17-2 victory.
Today, the U13 co-ed team will play Nova Scotia. The U13 female team opens up the tournament with two games today, as they play BC this morning, and Ontario this evening. The U15 male squad is up against BC and the U15 female squad takes on Ontario. The U17 team plays BC, and the U22 women play BC as well.
