Weyburn is set to experience the thrill of arm wrestling for the first time.

Arm Wars, an event hosted by Michael Gass and backed by the Saskatchewan Arm Wrestling Association, unites athletes and onlookers for a weekend competition that Weyburn hasn't experienced in quite some time.

"It's not our tournament; it's also Weyburns first arm wrestling competition in over two decades," shared Gass. "Hosting this event and witnessing our community come together is incredibly thrilling."

Scheduled for August 24 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Weyburn, the tournament allows participants to register on August 23 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. or on the day of the event from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The matches kick off at 1 p.m., with competitors vying in weight and age categories across men's, women's, and youth divisions.

Gass emphasizes that this event emphasizes community inclusivity.

"Whether you choose to compete or simply watch as a spectator, all are welcome. It's an opportunity to bring our town together through engaging in physical activity. It serves as a way to connect with new individuals and engage with the sport."

The tournament will adhere to a double-elimination structure, ensuring participants receive two opportunities to showcase their skills.
As an event, any earnings will go towards supporting tournaments or will be donated to the Saskatchewan Arm Wrestling Association.
