The Little Ballers program is coming to Weyburn this fall.

Owner of Little Ballers Chad Celaire is hosting a free awareness class for the program this Sunday for parents and kids to try the program before committing to the classes in the fall.

“We like to give the families an opportunity to kind of see the quality of our program. We've rolled this out in a number of places, and this is the way that parents seem to be willing to make the investment in the program, is if they first get to come and see it and see how their kids do in it.”

Forty-five of the sixty spots are filled with fifteen spots in each age group. The classes run from 10:15 a.m. to 2 p.m., divided into four 45-minute classes for each age group.

Celaire says a key focus for the program is teaching transferable skills.

“A typical class incorporates a lot of activity. It also incorporates numeracy and incorporates a lot of drills that get kids to test their balance abilities. It gets kids to work on their endurance. And then for each class, a small part of the program is basketball related each day, each class. So out of the 45-minute class, there is a 15-minute component that is specific to basketball.”

“Another big thing in the program is they're getting introduced to the idea of having a coach or having somebody that they listen to, and they get the opportunity to take direction from someone.”

The regular classes will begin on August 14th.
