Effective immediately, a boil water advisory (BWA) has been issued for the Town of Altona.
Until further notice, all water used for consumption should be brought to a rolling boil for at least a minute.
"Early this evening the Town of Altona public utilities department was notified of a potable water sample that came back positive for coliform," explained Public Works Manager Clint Derksen.
The Office of Drinking Water contacted the town's utilities department explaining that a Boil Water Advisory is best until the Town receives lab results back from another sample which Derksen says will be delivered to the lab Wednesday morning.
"We will do our best to ensure safe, clean drinking water is being delivered to everyone in Altona before rescinding the BWA," stressed Derksen. "We expect the BWA to be lifted by the end of the week."
