It's one of the biggest events of the year in the Municipality of Rhineland, and Plum Coulee's Plum Fest begins Friday night. Reeve Don Wiebe is looking forward to seeing everyone come out and celebrate.

"Again this year, Plum Fest features a host of attractions," shared Wiebe during Reeve on the Radio on CFAM Radio 950 with Morning Show Host Chris Sumner. "Street vendors, duck races, bike decorating contest, entertainment , line dancing, fireworks and of course, the Firemen's Rodeo and Saturday morning parade. So, come out, have some fun, and we hope to see you on Saturday at the parade."

The Plum Fest parade begins at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Reeve also touched on the historic capital investment plan from the Pembina Valley Water Co-op's 14 member municipalities announced just under two weeks ago. Over the next ten years, the members will pour $15 million into infrastructure upgrades.

"Rhineland certainly endorsed this plan, because our future growth depends on it," explained Wiebe. "Expanding drinking water plants takes a lot of time engineering, planning and construction, so with this commitment, that process can start immediately, and we think that's great."

Wiebe noted Rhineland's commitment does have implications on the municipality's budget.

"Council is currently discussing options how to raise this revenue, and this includes taxation, water rate increases or even debentures," he said. "Since municipalities have made this commitment, Rhineland is also hoping additional support may come out of this, because at this point municipal governments are the only ones that have stepped forward. We're pleased to hear these discussions are continuing."
