Three people were arrested after a Weyburn Police Service investigation ended in a traffic stop last Wednesday.

“CIU (Criminal Investigation Unit) members had been doing an investigation for some time, and it concluded with a traffic stop, and we’re able to charge some people with drug trafficking,” explained Sergeant Shane St. John.

A woman was charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, as well as trafficking cocaine. One man was charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of property obtained by crime. A second man was charged with possession of cocaine and two counts of failing to comply with a condition of his release.

“I’ve said in the past, we have a major issue with addictions, and with the drug trafficking in our southeast,” Sgt. St. John added. “It’s nice to get the drug traffickers charged, and then hopefully we can give people with addictions more help, and try to stop that supply to them.”

One of the male suspects was released pending an upcoming court date. The other man and the woman were held in custody and will be making their next court appearance in Estevan Provincial Court on Monday.
