The Town of Okotoks will be doing some maintenance on the pools at the Recreation Centre soon.

Jennie Bruch, who is the Team Lead for the Aquatic Centre at the Rec Centre, says this is annual routine maintenance, which happens at the end of each summer.

Unfortunately, though, this maintenance will cause the pools to close.

"August 25th will be the first day that we are closed," explained Bruch. "And then we will open the hot tub and the lap pool, so the Riley Minue Pool, on September 5th. And then Swindells [Pool] and the sauna will remain closed until October 7th. So, there's an extension there to do some maintenance."

Bruch says the work typically lasts for about two weeks, but it depends on what is needed to be done.

"Last year, we opened up a couple basins early and kept Riley Minue closed a little bit longer to get some extra work done there. So, it's almost like a flip this year. We are doing some work in Swindells, specifically."

According to Bruch, it's not very likely that the work will take longer than expected.

During the annual maintenance, the Town works to update the life cycle of the pool and keep it going within compliance.

Part of the work being completed this year is replacing their bottom drains.

The change rooms will remain open throughout the pool closures, but there might be some temporary closures to make sure they are clean.

Bruch says this maintenance is for the health and safety of everyone who uses the pool.
