City Council has officially designated the Lacombe Nurseries Limited Residence as a Municipal Historic Resource.

"The Lacombe Nurseries Limited Residence is a great addition to our City's Heritage Preservation Program," said Mayor Grant Creasey. "This designation ensures the building will continue to maintain its importance to our community's history. Thank you to the current owners of the residence and the Heritage Resources Committee (HRC) for their important work preserving the legacy of this building."

The Lacombe Nurseries Limited Residence is a bungalow constructed in 1922. The home features a gable roof, natural materials, and a covered front porch.

The exterior has a cottage-like appearance and original elements such as a side-gabled roof, and a gabled front porch supported by tapered square columns on brick and concrete piers.

The building is significant for its unique architecture, and connection to the founders and operators of Lacombe Nurseries.

The HRC has approved the application for Municipal Historic Resource designation.

"As time passes, once significant elements of a community can become all but forgotten," Myles Chykerda, HRC Chair said. Looking at a map of Lacombe today, it's hard to imagine that until 1991, much of north-west Lacombe was a thriving tree nursery. This wonderful residence, itself hidden amongst mature trees on 58th street, is a monument to the pioneering spirit that built Lacombe and also a testament to the owners who have done to keep it in such a magnificent condition."
