What better way to wrap up August than all the fun and entertainment at this weekend's Corn and Apple Festival in Morden. That from Mayor Nancy Penner who is looking forward to seeing the many people visiting city starting Friday.

"Only two more sleeps until the Morden Corn and Apple Festival kicks off," she shared for In the Mayor's Chair. "Manitoba's largest street festival is, running from Friday to Sunday, and is jam packed with entertainment, street vendors, craft tents, petting zoo and of course, Wonder Shows, the parade on Saturday rolls out at 10 a.m. and is always a crowd pleaser. Friday night main stage features, Album Sides and Saturday night main stage features The Watchmen. So, see you all this weekend in Morden."

On a more serious note, the Mayor  is urging the city's dog owners to ensure their animals are securely leashed at all times after a couple of recent off-leash dog attacks.

"On two occasions, that we know of, in the last couple of weeks there have been off leash dog attacks on other dogs and their owners out for a walk," explained Penner. "This is so traumatic, not only for the dog, but for the dog's owner. In one case, one of the dog owners was bit. You have to know Morden has an animal control by law, and if you don't want our animal control officer to apprehend, impound and place your dog in quarantine, if he has reason to believe your dog has bitten a person, you may even be fined $850 if you allow your dog to bite or attack a person. So, please leash your dog at all times when out for a walk."
