This Sunday the Weyburn Credit Union Spark Centre will host the Little Ballers free awareness classes.

There are fifteen spots in each age group. The classes run from 10:15 a.m. to 2 p.m., divided into four 45-minute classes for each age group.

Owner of Little Ballers Chad Celaire says the awareness classes serve to help parents and kids experience the program for free before registering for when it starts up in the fall.

“We like to give the families an opportunity to kind of see the quality of our program. We've rolled this out in a number of places, and this is the way that parents seem to be willing to make the investment in the program, is if they first get to come and see it and see how their kids do in it.”

The program is unique as it uses basketball to develop other transferable skills for young kids.

“The younger you can start kids in sports is better because, there's so many benefits for kids playing in sports. For this program in particular, the kids are learning how to be social. They're learning how to, especially at younger years, they're learning to color match, they're learning numeracy, they're learning how their body moves. We're teaching them how to balance and the importance of stretching. So, we really combine a lot of things into one program.”
