At 1:41 p.m., Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for areas of Central Alberta.
The watch is in effect for Lacombe County, Red Deer County, Ponoka County, and the County of Stettler.
Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain.
Thunderstorms will continue to develop this afternoon and evening. Some of these thunderstorms may become severe.
The threat of severe thunderstorms is expected to end this evening.
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, and torrential rainfall.
