The Estevan Police Service (EPS) responded to more than 51 incidents over the weekend, including issuing six traffic violation tickets.

On Friday, August 16, EPS received a report of vehicles failing to stop at the corner of 16th Avenue and 2nd Street. Increased traffic due to the Downtown Revitalization Project has resulted in busier-than-usual intersections in the area. EPS reminds the public to obey all traffic signs and signals, noting that fines and related offences are significant and could result in demerit points.

On Sunday, Aug. 18, EPS attended to the bypass on the east side of the city, where a semi-trailer was reported driving erratically and swerving on the highway. Police conducted a traffic stop and found the driver to be sober, issuing a warning about his actions.

Police also responded to a concern about youths within the construction zone on 4th Street. Officers attended the scene but were unable to locate the youths. EPS reminds the public not to enter restricted areas without approval.

In another incident, a traffic stop was conducted under a Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS) device demand. The driver, a Novice 2 licence holder, provided a breath sample, resulting in a 60-day license suspension and a three-day vehicle impoundment.

During a separate traffic stop, three people were arrested. A 25-year-old male from Arcola was charged with impaired driving and obstructing a police officer. Two other males from Weyburn were also charged with obstructing a police officer. They are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

A curfew check led to the arrest of an Estevan man who was not abiding by his conditions. He was held for court.

Police also received a report of a child abduction and assault, which was determined to be a civil matter. The assault remains under investigation.

Additionally, three youths were charged and placed under conditions following an investigation into multiple break-and-enters in Will Park Greens.

EPS also received several reports of suspicious people in the central part of town. The public is reminded to keep homes, outbuildings, and vehicles locked and to continue reporting suspicious activities.
