Dorothy Elizabeth Irene Stein

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Dorothy on Saturday, August 17, 2024, with her children by her side. Mother was born to Harry and Doris Swarbrick on December 23, 1929. Mom grew up in Moose Jaw attending William Grayson and King George schools and Central Collegiate. In 1951, mom married her best friend Harvey Stein, and they raised four children together.

Mom had many jobs in her lifetime with bookkeeping and realtor, but her favourite was office manager at Ashdowns Furniture where she worked until she retired at 85 years old. Mom was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Mom never had a bad word to say about anyone and always found something good in everyone. Over the years mom enjoyed spending time with her family, going to the lake, speedskating, bowling, puzzles, shopping, the Casino and playing cards with special friends, the Rolfe’s and the Wilson’s. Later in life mom’s favourite past-time was watching the Toronto Blue Jays on TV. She never missed a game.

Mom lived in her own home with the help of her children until this past April. In May she moved to West Park Crossing and enjoyed it very much and was taken very good care of by the staff.

Mom was predeceased by her father and mother, Harry and Doris Swarbrick; husband Harvey; grandson Kevin Stein; brother Bill; sister Kay Salewich; sister-in-law Fern Swarbrick; sister-in-law Ina Salewich; brother-in-law Terry Salewich and brother-in-law Dave Banting.

Mom will be sadly missed by her four children, Ken (Terry), Gary, Sandra Gross (Perry), Barbara Stein (Mike Zipp); grandchildren Sheena Young (Bryan), Jacy Stein; great grandchildren Kayden (Dad Kevin), Kolten, Addison, Livia; sister Francis Banting; brother George (Joanne); sister Linda Snyders (Renus), sister Jane Quark (Dave); special cousin Florence and many nieces and nephews.

All who knew Dorothy knew what a wonderful, kind, and special lady she was and will be deeply missed.

A special thank you to all the doctors and nursing staff who took such good care of our mother while she was in the Dr. F. H. Wigmore Hospital.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 at W. J. Jones & Son Reception Centre, 474 Hochelaga St W., Moose Jaw. Due to allergies to fragrance the family asks to refrain from wearing fragrances.

For those so wishing memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Cancer Society or SPCA.
